Fr. Eugen J. Pentiuc was awarded a Lilly Faculty Fellowship ($30,000) in support of his research for a book entitled, The Old Testament in Eastern Orthodox Tradition (under contract with the Oxford University Press, 2011).

A panel discussion, Thinking Through Faith: New Perspectives from Orthodox Christian Scholars, was held on February 26, 2009, as part of the celebration of Hellenic College's fortieth anniversary. The event, attended by more than 125 people, and based on the book of the same name, took place in the Reading Room of the Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center. The guests were welcomed by the Rev. Nicholas Triantafilou, President, and Dr. Lily Macrakis, Dean, of Hellenic College. Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou of Fordham University and Dr.

Faculty and students from Hellenic Collegeand Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology celebrated the Feast of theThree Hierarchs on Friday January 30th with liturgical services and a specialsymposium on the theme of ‘Philanthropy.’

 

From the eleventh century, the Orthodox Church observes onthis day a special remembrance of the common witness of St. Basil the Great,St. Gregory the Theologian and St. John Chrysostom.

 

Archbishop Iakovos Museum Iconography Dedication

The Tchakurides and Katchis families at the dedication of the iconography in the Archbishop Iakovos Museum. 
 
 
 
The iconography in the dome of the Archbishop Iakovos Museum in the library was recently dedicated. Bishop Andonios of Phasiane presided at an Aghiasmos service on November 15, 2008. The Pantocrator and surrounding Prophets, Saints and Evangelists are the work of the noted iconographer George Filipakis.

 

Tanya Contos Poetry Reading

 Tanya Contos, former editor of Holy Cross Orthodox Press read from her newly published book of poetry, The Tide Clock and Other Poems, on December 4, 2008. The book was published by Somerset Hall Press and is available at Holy Cross Bookstore.

 

 

NEW SCHOLARSHIPS ESTABLISHED

Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology announce the establishment of two new scholarships as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Hellenic College, the only fully accredited Orthodox Christian four year liberal arts institution of higher learning in America.

THE  "COME AND SEE"  SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship provides for 80% of tuition for four years for all incoming students in Hellenic College.
