Office of Vocation and Ministry

The Office of Vocation and Ministry at Hellenic College had a busy and productive month.

March 3rd: Exploration of the Priestly Vocation. Eleven undergraduate students attended a luncheon with Fr. Ted Barbas, Chancellor of the Metropolis of Boston, who shared reflections on the spiritual fathers in his life. This was the fourth session in an annual series devoted to helping Hellenic  College men explore a calling to the priesthood.

March 10th: Women in Ministry Luncheon. The OVM welcomed HCHC alumna Chrysanthy Tiggas to campus to speak to Hellenic College women about her experience in ministry. Chrysanthy works at the Metropolis of Boston Camp and the St. Methodios Faith and Heritage Center in Contoocook, NH. This was the fourth session in an annual series devoted to helping Hellenic College women explore work and development in ministry.

March 10th-12th: Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Education. HCHC President Fr. Nicholas Triantafilou, OVM Director Dr. Ann Bezzerides and OVM Assistant Director Paul Lundberg attended the NetVUE conference, sponsored by the Council of Independent Colleges with funding through the Lilly Endowment, Inc., for the enrichment and development of OVM's programs for the theological exploration of vocation. Over 100 colleges and universities attended the conference, united by a desire to address deliberately the theological implications of vocation in the classroom, student life and community service.

March 13th: Hellenic College Round Table. The HCHC Dean of Students, Dn. Nicholas Belcher, hosted undergraduate juniors and seniors for dinner and a discussion about war from an Orthodox theological perspective.

March 18th: OVM Director Dr. Ann Bezzarides and CrossRoad Director Mary Long spoke at St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cambridge on the topic of Orthodoxy, Vocation and Facebook for the parish's "Learning in Lent" series.

March 25th-27th: CrossRoad Alumni Retreat. The OVM welcomed over thirty alumni from the CrossRoad summer institute to Boston for the fourth annual CrossRoad Alumni Retreat. Guest speakers were Fr. Michael Nasser, the National Chaplain for Orthodox Christian Fellowship and Dn. Nicholas Belcher, HCHC Dean of Students and former CrossRoad Director. They offered reflections on the theme "Called to be Loved." Alumni attended sessions led by the guest speakers, participated in discussions led by CrossRoad staff and enjoyed fellowship with each other.

April 3rd: Hellenic College RoundTable. Hellenic College faculty member Dr. Maria Mackavey, chair of the Management and Leadershjip program, hosted undergraduate juniors and seniors for dinner and a discussion about the future of the Church.
