Holy Cross Professors at Bossey Ecumenical Institute in Geneva

Fr. Thomas FitzGerald, Professor of Church History at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and Dr. Kyriaki FitzGerald, Adjunct Professor of Theology, were guests of honor at the observance of the 70th anniversary of the Bossey Ecumenical Institute in Geneva, Switzerland September 30-October 2, 2016.

The observance brought together former professors, graduates, theologians, and church leaders for a conference which discussed issues of Church unity and the role of religion in today’s societies. Among the other participants were Metropolitan Jeremiah of Switzerland and Archbishop Job of Telmessos.

Founded by the World Council of Churches and related to the University of Geneva, the Bossey Ecumenical Institute is a unique center of ecumenical formation. In the years since 1946, hundreds of theologians from the Orthodox, Catholic, and Protestant Churches have participated in the Bossey seminars. Bossey is located on the grounds of an 18th century chateau overlooking Lake Geneva.

Both Fr. Thomas and Dr. Kyriaki FitzGerald have served as visiting professors at Bossey on a number of occasions since 1992.

They were warmly welcomed back to Bossey by Fr. Ioan Sauca, the Director of Bossey and the Deputy General Secretary of the World Council of Churches.
