HCHC Observes Clean Monday
On Monday, February 19, the Hellenic College Holy Cross community observed the start of Great Lent with a day-long retreat that began with Orthros in Holy Cross Chapel. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, delivered the keynote address, in which he elaborated on the themes highlighted in this year's Lenten Encyclical [read the full text here]. His Eminence exhorted the students, staff, faculty, and visitors in attendance to see Great Lent as "a transformative journey" in which prayer, fasting, and self-examination are key elements that prepare the faithful for the ultimate gift of the glorious Resurrection.
After the morning service, students gathered in breakout discussion groups and later had time for individual reflection and meetings with their spiritual fathers before Vespers. The day concluded with Great Compline.
