Meeting of Orthodox-Catholic Theological Consultation

Holy Cross faculty members participated in the meeting of the Orthodox-Catholic Bilateral Theological Consultation held on October 23-25, 2014, at St. Paul College in Washington, DC.

Among those faculty members from Holy Cross participating in the meetings were Fr. Thomas FitzGerald, executive secretary of the Consultation; Dr. Despina Prassas, and Fr. Nicholas Apostola, Field Education Facilitator. Fr. Apostola presented a paper on the recent discussions on the topic of the laity in the life of the Church.

The Consultation is composed of theologians appointed by the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Founded in 1965, it is the oldest continuous bilateral dialogue. His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston is the Orthodox chair of the Consultation.

The Consultation continued its discussion on the laity as it is related to the broader concern of primacy and conciliarity in the Church.

The members also began to make plans for the fiftieth anniversary of the Consultation, which will take place in 2015.
