HCHC’s CrossRoad Summer Institute Expands to Chicago
This fall, as Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) releases the dates for its summer programs, a third session of CrossRoad Summer Institute (CrossRoad) is on the roster – to be hosted in Chicago. Through the leadership and collaboration of several generous Chicago-based donors, CrossRoad will host not only two sessions on the campus of Hellenic College Holy Cross, but a third session at North Park University.
The CrossRoad Summer Institute is a 10-day summer program inviting high school juniors and seniors to “explore their faith like never before.” Since its inception in 2004, CrossRoad has seen steady growth in applications. In 2008, due to overwhelming interest, CrossRoad added a second session. Since this expansion, interest in CrossRoad has continued to rise, with applications often double the number for the 64 participant spots. Over the years, HCHC’s Office of Vocation & Ministry (OVM) has received requests to bring CrossRoad to other metropolitan areas in order to broaden the reach of the program. The OVM recognizes that such expansion would offer a great opportunity to make CrossRoad more available to participants from a wide variety of Orthodox backgrounds as well as to expand its accessibility. North Park University was chosen for CrossRoad in Chicago because of its proximity to activities in the city as well as its ethos as an academic institute.
The dates for the upcoming CrossRoad Summer Institute are as follows:
- June 16-26, 2018 – Hellenic College Holy Cross, Brookline, MA
- July 2-12, 2018 – Hellenic College Holy Cross, Brookline, MA
- July 21-31, 2018 – North Park University, Chicago, IL
CrossRoad is staffed by graduate students at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology who undergo 100+ hours of OVM training over the course of the school year. This team of young adults will run two sessions at HCHC and then fly to Chicago in order to bring the same program, a program that has transformed so many lives over the past 14 years. In the words of HCHC President, Fr. Christopher Metropulos, “We pray that this expansion will allow more high school students to dive deeper into their faith, experience the richness of our Church like never before, and leave inspired to walk the road of the life-giving Cross.”
