HCHC Bids a Fond Farewell to Dean of Students Rev. Fr. Nicholas Belcher
August 11, 2017 – Today, Hellenic College Holy Cross bids farewell to longtime Dean of Students Rev. Fr. Nicholas Belcher with equally great regret and gratitude because of his lasting contributions to the life and sacred mission of this institution. Fr. Nick will be leaving to become the assistant to Metropolitan Joseph of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America beginning on August 15.
Fr. Nick has served as Dean of Students at HCHC since 2008. Under his leadership, Student Affairs has enhanced the co-curricular experience for both Hellenic College and Holy Cross students, developed a new advising and counseling model, and standardized the judicial processes and approaches to student crises. Student Affairs has also improved outreach and communication to parents and families, increased opportunities for student-alumni engagements, and initiated a number of other new programs, activities, and services that support HCHC seminarians and students.
Prior to becoming the Dean of Students, Fr. Nick served HCHC for three years as Assistant Director of the Office of Vocation and Ministry (OVM) and Director of the CrossRoad program, where he played a key role in growing new programs and activities.
Speaking on behalf of the whole community at a festive gathering in his honor, HCHC’s President, Rev. Fr. Christopher Metropulos told him, “It has been my pleasure and honor to work side by side with you. Your example of what an Orthodox Christian cleric should be will stay with our students all their lives.” In response, Fr. Nick said, “I can’t thank the school enough for this incredible experience. I’ve had amazing relationships with colleagues and students, and everyone’s support and love after the loss of my beloved wife, Sonia, meant and still means the world to me and to our son, Andrew.”
Our prayers and best wishes go with Fr. Nick and Andrew as they begin an exciting new chapter in their lives!
