Holy and Great Council of 2016: A Conversation
The 14 Autocephalous Orthodox Churches will gather in Crete (June 16-27, 2016) for the convening of the much anticipated Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church. This historic event, the first time that the heads and representative bishops of all 14 Autocephalous Orthodox Churches will gather at a council, has been in preparation for several decades.
Rev. Dr. Thomas FitzGerald, Professor of Church History and Historical Theology at Holy Cross, and Dr. Lewis Patsavos, Professor of Canon Law Emeritus, will lead a conversation about the historical and canonical contexts for the council on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, from 3:30-4:30 pm in the Reading Room. This is one of three conversations planned in the coming weeks that will focus on the context, content, and possibilities of the council.
