Kallinikeion Institute Intensive Modern Greek Language Program Enters 14th Year
The Kallinikeion Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross is an intensive Modern Greek language program sponsored by the Kallinikeion Foundation. The program offers two courses in Modern Greek, one at the Beginning (Beginning Modern Greek I) and one at the Intermediate level (Intermediate Modern Greek I&II).
Beginning Modern Greek I is designed to provide students with reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking skills in Modern Greek corresponding to Novice High standards as defined by the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign languages (ACTFL). Intermediate Modern Greek I&II is designed to provide students with the same skills at the Intermediate High level as defined by ACTFL. Each course meets for an average of 5h/day, Monday through Friday in August (8/15 HCHC holiday), offering 102 hours of instruction in Modern Greek and 6 credits towards graduation.
Furthermore, the Kallinikeion Institute provides its students with an abundance of opportunities to explore Greek culture, music, and literature, through program activities and HCHC resources. In the inspiring Boston academic environment, Kallinikeion students combine their study of Modern Greek with museum visits, traditional Greek music concerts, Greek poetry recitation, and other educational events. All Hellenic College Holy Cross full-time students are eligible for a full scholarship covering tuition, room and board, and all the other benefits of the Kallinikeion Institute. The program is open to outside students as well, depending on availability.
The Kallinikeion Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross also invites applications for ten Kallinikeion Community Scholarships for summer 2016. The scholarships cover tuition and on-campus room and board; transportation and personal expenses are not covered. Students who complete this course will earn six college credits in Modern Greek.
Hellenic College Holy Cross is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Credits earned at Hellenic College are eligible for transfer to other colleges and universities. Students must confer with their academic adviser, department, or registrar to determine whether transfer credits will be accepted in fulfillment of their graduation requirements.
