New Hospital Internships a Big Win for Hellenic College Students
Career-minded undergraduates interested in one of America’s largest industries—healthcare—will be excited to learn about a new minor in healthcare management now offered at Hellenic College. The minor was developed under the leadership of the Management and Leadership director, Dr. Antigoni Papadimitriou. Additionally, through the help of HCHC Trustee Dr. Christos Mantzoros, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the Management and Leadership program has secured healthcare management internships beginning this spring at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and the Veteran Administration Boston Healthcare System. These are two major Boston hospitals, one private the other public, both affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
Our students will leave this program better prepared for leadership in what is currently America’s fastest growing industry. The Management and Leadership program already has a great track record of success when it comes to preparing students for the healthcare industry. Recent graduates from our program have gone on to work in healthcare institutions such as Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, BAYADA Home Health Care in New Jersey, and HRM at Novo Nordisk-Dubai-UAE.
The addition of this new minor and the internships will only further enrich and expand what is already a dynamic program—one that gives students a strong foundation in core management principles, including leadership development, cross-cultural communication, quantitative reasoning, and team-building. Other areas of growth within the program include new course offerings such as: Quality Improvement and Leadership; Public Management; Fundraising; Grant Writing for Non-profits; and Business Communication. These new avenues opening up within the program will be highly advantageous for Hellenic College students.
Students and faculty in the Management and Leadership program attend a seminar offered by the senior marketing staff of the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden on November 5, 2014.
The Management and Leadership program places a high value on exposing our students to career possibilities through events, trips, and lectures that take place outside of the classroom and bringing them face-to-face with working professionals. Prof. Papadimitriou brought HCHC board members to campus this past fall semester to share their experience on varied topics such as women in leadership and branding. She also organized a student trip to a seminar in November offered by the senior marketing staff of the Boston Celtics. Students gained firsthand knowledge about career opportunities in professional sports management.
The curriculum of the Management and Leadership program is designed to give students the skills and experience that will prepare them for careers of excellence. The new minor in healthcare management and the internships in Boston’s hospitals will help Hellenic College students advance further in their future careers.
