The Missions Institute of Orthodox Christianity at Hellenic College Holy Cross is organizing a Spring Break missions trip to Guatemala from March 7-16, 2014. The trip will include six students and be led by Jamil Samara, Director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Internet Ministries.
The group will travel throughout the Guatemalan highlands and experience the spiritual revolution occurring among the Mayan Indians. This movement, led by Fr. Andres Giron (the main speaker during last year’s HCHC Missions Week) is leading 300 villages and up to several hundred thousand Mayans into the Orthodox Church.
The missions group will visit one of the Orthodox schools along the coastland of Guatemala, will worship in several village churches, and interact with some of the youth groups. This will be a trip whose main purpose is to learn what is happening among the Mayans and be inspired by their faith journey, to share our own faith and encourage these brothers and sisters in their walk with Christ in the Orthodox Church, and to learn about missions from the founder of this movement, Fr. Andres, as well as from the OCMC missionaries serving there, Fr. John and Pres. Alexandra Chakos and Fr. David and Matushka Roxanne Rucker. If you know any Spanish, that is a plus!
This will be an unforgettable experience of mission, faith, and learning!
Since there is limited space (only 6 will be accepted), any students interested in applying for this team should download and fill out the application form and submit the required references by December 1st. The cost of the trip is $1000/person, which includes airfare and expenses in Guatemala.
