Very Rev. Dr. Joachim Cotsonis Participates in Harvard Coin Seminar
The Very Rev. Dr. Joachim Cotsonis of Hellenic College Holy Cross recently participated in the seminar, Harvard Art Museums’ Coin Collection as a Source for Byzantine Political, Art and Economic History, offered by Dr. Cécile Morrisson, at the Harvard Art Museums.
Dr. Morrisson currently serves as the Advisor for Byzantine numismatics at Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard Center for Byzantine Studies and was recently elected to the prestigious Institut de France. During the seminar, Dr. Morrisson presented more than over 50 gold, silver and bronze coins from the Harvard collection, ranging from the late Roman period to the last years of the Byzantine empire.
Participants in the seminar had the rare opportunity to actually handle the specimens as they were individually discussed. Among the other 15 participants were Dr. Christine Kondoleon, the George D. and Margo Behrakis Senior Curator of Greek and Roman Art of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Dr. Carmen Arnold-Biucchi, Curator of Ancient Coins in the Harvard Art Museums and Lecturer on the Classics at Harvard and Professor Clive Foss.
