OCAMPR Holds Annual Meeting at Hellenic College Holy Cross

The Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine Psychology and Religion (OCAMPR) held its annual meeting at Hellenic College Holy Cross Orthodox School of Theology this past week, the third year it has met on campus. Over 100 people participated, including a number of HCHC students, who were invited to attend all sessions at no charge.

The theme for this year was “On Pain and Suffering” and the keynote address was given by Bishop Alexander (Golitzin) of the OCA Diocese of the South, a noted theologian who has written numerous books on the Church Fathers and their reflections on the theme. His inspiring talk set the stage for the remainder of the meeting.

Plenary speakers included Dr. Donald Jenkins of the University of Texas (medical perspective), Dr. Albert Rossi of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary (psychological perspective), and Holy Cross faculty member Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Clapsis (theological perspective).

Friday afternoon and all day Saturday were filled with concurrent workshops and independent papers by faculty and students on topics including medical missions, chaplaincy, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many others.

The proceedings will be published in book form with Dr. Deacon Stephen Muse as the editor-in-chief.
