Antonios Papathanasiou Named Interim Dean of Students
Antonios A. Papathanasiou, a graduate of both Hellenic College (BA 1998) and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (MDiv 2017), has been appointed interim Dean of Students. He brings to the position a deep knowledge of and love for the institution, along with a multitude of talents and impressive credentials. In addition to his HCHC degrees, Mr. Papathanasiou holds a master’s degree in International Relations/Politics from City College, CUNY and has pursued doctoral studies in International Security/Politics at the Graduate Center, CUNY.
He has served as a representative of the Institute of Inter-Balkan Relations at the United Nations while concurrently working in the Press Office of the Permanent Mission of Greece to the UN. After fulfilling his military service as a petty officer in the Greek Navy, he served as an International Relations/Politics analyst for the Institute for Democracy think tank, Constantine Karamanlis, and later as the personal advisor and assistant to the late president of Nea Dimokratia, Miltiades Evert. He ran for the Greek Parliament in 2012.
While a student at Hellenic College, Mr. Papathanasiou assisted the Dean of Students, Archdeacon Gerasimos, now Metropolitan of San Francisco, in a variety of roles. In his final year at Holy Cross, he served as President of the HCHC Student Government Association. That experience, says HCHC President, Rev. Fr. Christopher Metropulos, “provided him with keen insight into the life of our students and their day-to-day needs. We welcome Antonios and wish him God’s blessings as he begins a new era at HCHC."
