HCHC Students Visit Thessaloniki
On Saturday, March 18, eight students – four Hellenic College undergrads who are also CrossRoad alumni and three CrossRoad alumni from other universities – embarked on a cross-cultural community engagement pilgrimage to Thessaloniki, Greece. The group was led by Dn. Mike Tishel of HCHC's Office of Vocation & Ministry.
While in Thessaloniki, the students were led on a pilgrimage tour of Greece's most prominent ecclesiastical social ministries and holy sites by local pastor Fr. Spyridon Kalaitzoglou. Students encountered first-hand Greece's largest prison ministry, spearheaded by Fr. Gervasios Raptopoulos; an internationally recognized ministry to Greece's Roma (gypsy) population; a unique home for unwed mothers; a ministry to the deaf and hard of hearing; and much more.
Students were captivated by the inspiring examples of servant-leaders who, in the midst of a major national economic crisis, personified the adage "you do not give when you have, but you have when you give."
