Archbishop and Board of Trustees Announce Fr. Triantafilou's Plans to Retire

At the Executive Committee meeting of the Board of Trustees held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, Eve of the Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, chaired by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, the Reverend Father Nicholas C. Triantafilou announced his plans to retire as president of Hellenic College Holy Cross at the end of his third five-year term, effective June 30, 2015.  

Archbishop Demetrios stated that Father President’s retirement was for reasons of health. His Eminence accepted Father Nicholas’ decision with profound regret. The Archbishop expressed his gratefulness to Father Triantafilou for all that he has done during his fifteen-year tenure as President of Hellenic College Holy Cross, the longest tenure of any president of the institution, and in particular for his faithful ministry, tireless efforts, and exceptional Christ-centered leadership.

The Trustees lauded Father Nick for his outstanding presidential accomplishments, his empathetic and collaborative managerial style, the establishment of several centers and institutes, his pastoral interaction with students, and significant fundraising. The Trustees promised to work with Father as he completes his final year and ensure a smooth transition.

The Archbishop, as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and in accordance with Hellenic College Holy Cross Bylaws and governing practices, immediately announced the formation of a presidential search committee:   

Chairman of the Search Committee:

          Trustee Thomas C. Lelon, Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees

Board of Trustees’ Designees:

          Trustee Robert Badavas, Corporate Treasurer

          Trustee Helen A. Carlos, Chair, Institutional Advancement Committee

 Archbishop’s Designees:                                   

          Trustee George Alex, At-Large Representative of the Trustees

          Dimitra Manis, Human Resource Professional/Archdiocesan Cathedral Council

Elected Faculty Representatives:

          Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology

          Hellenic College               

          Note: The respective faculties will meet during the week of September 15, 2014 to elect their representative to the search committee.


The first meeting of the Presidential Search Committee will be on Thursday, October 9, 2014.

The Reverend Father Nicholas C. Triantafilou has been president of HCHC since 2000.  Several events and activities will be scheduled throughout the academic year to honor Father Nicholas’ enormous contribution to Hellenic College Holy Cross.
