Holy Cross Alumnus to be Ordained to the Holy Diaconate on the Great Feast of The Holy Exaltation

Dr. Anton "Tony" Vrame will be ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Geron of America, on the Great Feast of the Holy Exaltation of the Precious, Life-Giving Cross on Wednesday, September 14 at Holy Cross Chapel on the campus of Hellenic College Holy Cross in Brookline, MA. The day is the patronal feast of the school.

Dr. Vrame is the Director of the Department of Religious Education of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, located at Hellenic College Holy Cross. He is further an Adjunct Associate Professor of Religious Education at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

Dr. Vrame is the author of The Educating Icon: Teaching Wisdom and Holiness in the Orthodox Way (Holy Cross Orthodox Press).

His lifetime has been faithfully devoted to serving the Orthodox Church. From 2002-2006, he was Director of the Patriarch Athenagoras Orthodox Institute at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. From 1996-2002, he was Managing Editor of Holy Cross Orthodox Press and Adjunct Assistant Professor at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, teaching courses in Religious Education. From 1999-2002, he was a Lecturer in Religious Education at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary.

Dr. Vrame represents the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on the Faith and Order Commission of the National Council of Churches in Christ, USA, since 2005. From 2008-2013, he was Chairman of the Commission. From 2009 - present, he is the Vice-President of the Orthodox Christian Education Commission for the Assembly of Canonical Bishops. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Religious Education. He also served as Treasurer (1998-2005), Vice-President (2005-2007), and President (2007-2009) of the Orthodox Theological Society in America.

Dr. Vrame is a native of Chicago, and holds degrees from DePaul University (BA), the University of Chicago (MA), Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (MDiv) and Boston College (PhD in Theology and Education).
