The Very Rev. Dr. Joachim Cotsonis, Director of the Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center, and Byzantine art historian, participated in the 3^rd International Sigillographic Workshop for the Digital Cataloguing of Byzantine Lead Seals (SigiDoc Workshop) held at Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard Center for Byzantine Studies, Washington, DC, from 8-11 July 2011.

Fr. Cotsonis served as one of the two iconographic consultants for this workshop devoted to the international standards for the cataloguing of images and objects. He also participated in the 2^nd International Sigidoc Workshop held at Dumbarton Oaks in December of 2010. Dumbarton Oaks, which possesses 17,000 Byzantine lead seals, is preparing an electronic database for this material. Fr.

Dr. Demetrios Katos, Dean of Hellenic College and Associate Professor of Religious Studies, has recently published an article in Christian Century, a leading scholarly periodical. The article, entitled "Holy Imitation", appears in the June 28, 2011 edition (vol. 128, no. 13). The article deals with the lives of early Christians , recorded by Palladius in the early fifth century in his Lausiac History, so called because it was written for his patron, Lausus, chamberlain of the imperial court and one of the wealthiest men in the Roman Empire. In the article Dr. Katos makes the case for imitation of early Christians such as were written about by Palladius instead of falling prey to the conformity foisted upon us by the pressures of our modern mass culture.

Panayotis League, Instructor of Modern Greek Studies and Music at Hellenic College, is teaching courses in Greek music at the Zoukfest World Music Festival this summer at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Mr. League is known for his research in traditional Greek music. He is currently enrolled in the graduate program in ethnomusicology at Boston University and is conducting research on the consolidation and expression of ethnic identity through music and dance in the Greek diaspora community of Tarpon Springs, Florida. He teaches a wide range of courses in modern Greek language and culture at Hellenic College and is an instructor at the Kallinikeion Intensive Modern Greek Program which convenes each summer at the college.

Although most students have left for the summer, Hellenic College and Holy Cross continue to be a hub of activity during June, July and August with academic, ministerial and vocational programs. Holy Cross offered courses in Hospital Ministry, Liturgical Greek, Preaching and Biblical Hebrew.

Hellenic College once again will offer the Kallinikeion Intensive Greek Program from August 8 to September 2. The program, sponsored by The Kallinikeion Foundation, consists of an average of five hours per day, five days per week, of classroom instruction with a substantial amount of preparation work for the next day's class.

Hellenic College Dean Dr. Demetrios Katos, Cantonis Professor Dr. James Skedros, Office of Vocation and Ministry Director Dr. Ann Bezzerides and Hellenic College Dean of Students Dn. Nicholas Belcher represented Hellenic College at a conference on Orthodoxy and Higher Education held recently at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary. Over the course of three days participants explored a wide range of topics relating to Orthodoxy and higher education, including curriculum, pedagogy,student body and student life, faculty and administration, the broader Orthodox community and the global community.

The Rev. Nicholas Triantafilou, President of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, has announced that Dr. Demetrios S. Katos has been appointed Dean of Hellenic College by a vote of the Board of Trustees. He had been serving as Interim Dean for the past year. Fr. Nicholas' announcement at Commencement of Dr. Katos' appointment was met by a standing ovation of sustained applause, especially by students, as well as all others present.

Dr. Katos is a native of New York City and received his B.A. from New York University, his Master of Divinity from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology and an M.A. in Early Christian Studies and a PhD in Greek and Latin Patristic Theology from the Catholic University of America.
