Dr. Maria Mackavey, Director of the Management and Leadership Program at Hellenic College, held an appreciation breakfast on Thursday May 5, 2011 to thank the site supervisors for the program's internships.
All Management and Leadership students are required to complete an on-site internship in their senior year. Dr. Mackavey said: "We are grateful to the site supervisors for mentoring our students and for sharing their expertise. The program could not function without them. We are also proud of our graduating students who completed their interships this year: Adina Afendoulis worked under the direction of Ms. Celia Campbell in the finance and budget office of the Fletcher School of Government at Tufts University; Stephen Kakis worked under the direction of Mr.
Dr. Christos Yannaras was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity at the 69th Commencement of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology on May 21, 2011. He is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Cultural Diplomacy at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, where he taught from 1982 to 2002. He earned a PhD from the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and a PhD from the Aristotle University in Thessalonica. Dr. Yannaras has long been regarded as a leading philosopher and theologian in Greece and Europe. He has been a visiting professor at several universities in Greece and Europe and received an honorary degree from the Theology Faculty at Belgrade University.

The Sixty Ninth Commencement of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology took place on the school's campus on Saturday, May 21, 2011. The festivities began the evening before with Great Vespers and Stavrophoria in Holy Cross Chapel, presided over by Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. The Stavrophoria is the celebration of granting large school crosses to graduates of Holy Cross.
Commencement Day began with Matins and an Hierarchical Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios. Commencement followed in The Pappas Auditorium. As is usual each year, graduates, faculty, hierarchs, the honorary degree recipient and clergy marched from Dowd Hall to The Pappas Auditorium led by banners and an icon of the Resurrection.
Commencement Week at Hellenic College and Holy Cross brings to campus each year alumni celebrating 25 and 50 years since graduation as well as other alumni who visit to renew old friendships and support their alma mater. This year the HCHC Alumni Association will honor the 1961 graduating class of Holy Cross and the 1986 graduating classes of Hellenic College and Holy Cross. Festivities begin on Wednesday, May 18 with an all day Alumni Board of Directors meeting followed by Great Vespers in Holy Cross Chapel with the Holy Cross classes of 1986 and 1961 celebrating.

The Office of Vocation and Ministry at Hellenic College recently organized a servant-leadership workshop for student leaders attending Hellenic College and other colleges and universities in the greater Boston area. The guest presenter was Mr. Tim Tassopoulos, Senior Vice President of Operations for Chick-fil-A and a member of the Board of Trustees of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. He facilitated students' learning about the practices of great leaders.
