Director, Major Gifts

Hellenic College Holy Cross (HCHC) is the intellectual, educational and spiritual center of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, stimulating, developing, and sustaining ordained and lay vocations for service to Church and society based on faith. Position Summary:

Working closely with the President and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the position involves designing, developing, delivering, and administering fundraising programs. Develops and implements strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects with the capacity for a major gift of $10k to $1M and above.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors and developing materials, creating marketing plans, and organizing related programs/events

  • Prepares and negotiates gift instruments ranging from moderate to high complexity

  • Manages a portfolio of principal gift prospects assigned to the President and Deans

  • Directs the research and preparation of the President’s briefing materials, creates talking points and meeting strategies for the President and Deans

  • Collaborates with the Director of Financial Aid to ensure proper stewardship of financial aid donors

  • Under the direction of the President and VP/IA, plans, organizes, and directs large scale fundraising campaigns which involves coordination of multiple components

  • Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and/or stewards major gift prospects and donors using specific metrics to track all activity and provide reports on outcomes utilizing a “return on investment” strategy in managing donor portfolios

  • Writes complex proposals for solicitation of individual, corporate, and/or grant foundation prospects

  • Recruits, trains, and supports key staff and volunteers who assist in IA efforts

  • Utilize key fundraising applications and databases to implement goals and objectives of the fundraising strategy; Ensure fundraising goals are met

  • Attend business related functions, meetings, and conferences, as well as serve on internal/external committees representing the College

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, grants management, and public relations

  • Proficient in MS Office, Raiser’s Edge, or similar fundraising database system

  • Broad knowledge of Higher Education business

  • Clear understanding and ability to communicate the HCHC mission including its vision, goals, objectives, achievements, and infrastructure.

  • Keen awareness of applicable laws, rules, regulations, institutional policies, etc.

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies

  • Capable of making persuasive and compelling presentations of campus goals/objectives

  • Possess both the personal characteristics and skills that will create and maintain excitement for supporting HCHC

  • Demonstrated experience of meeting goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, execution, and evaluation

  • Solid judgement and decision making capability

Education & Experience:

  • BS in a related field required and/or eqivalent experience/training

  • 5-10 years of increasing responsibility in fundraising methods and best practices, with emphasis in non-profit

  • Membership in Council of Advancement in Secondary Education (CASE) and/or Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) preferred

  • Demonstrated project management experience
