Library Director Scholarly Paper

The Very Rev. Joachim Cotsonis, PhD, Director of the Archbishop Iakovos Library, presented a scholarly paper at the 10th International Symposium of Byzantine Sigillography held at the University of Ioannina, Greece, on October 1-3, 2009. The paper was entitled "The Image of the Doubting Thomas on an Unpublished Seal of the Sixth Century". It was co-authored by Dr. John Nesbitt of Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard Center for Byzantine Studies.

 

Library Icon on Loan

The Archbishop Iakovos Collection has loaned the icon of St. John the Theologian, c. 1800, to the Museum of Biblical Art (MOBIA) of the American Bible Society in New York for the special exhibition and reception in honor of the visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Batrtholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople and New Rome. The exhibit, entitled "Scripture, Image, Life: Orthodox Christianity", will continue through the 24th of January 2010.

 

Cantonis Chair Lecture

Alumni Association Bowling Tournament

October 26, 2009

 

The Alumni Association recently sponsored the first annual Fall Classic Bowling Tournament in which current seniors took on alumni from years past. The event took place at Boston Bowl in Dorchester, MA. Nine seniors and eight alumni were locked in intense competition for two hours and, after many laughs, the seniors emerged victorious with a combined average of 131 compared to 111 for the alumni.

 

Summer Institute 2009

Summer Institute 2009 is a success!

Department of Religious Education and National Forum of Church Musicians Focus on Teaching the Faith and Involving Young People in Music.

Seventy five participants from every corner of the Archdiocese attended the 2009 Summer Institute held by the Department of Religious Education and the National Forum of Greek Orthodox Church Musicians on the campus of Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

Over three days and two nights, experts and specialists led workshops and presentations on teaching the Orthodox Faith and involving young people in Church music programs.
