Fr. Gus Christo speaks at Hellenic College-Holy Cross

Rev. Dr. Gus Christo, pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Wilmington, DE delivered the annual St, John Chrysostom Lecture on January 29, 2008 at Hellenic College-Holy Cross.

Fr. Christo spoke on "St. John Chrysostom: The 1600th Anniversary of His Repose and the Pertinence of His Ecclesiology Today."   In his presentation, Fr. Christo emphasized the distinctive exegetical characteristics of the preaching of St. John Chrysostom as they related to the understanding of the Church.

The lecture marked the beginning of a Symposium at the School commemorating the ministry and writings of St. John Chrysostom, a renowned preacher, exegete, and Patriarch of Constantinople.  The Symposium marked the 1600th Anniversary of his death.

Fr. Christo received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his M.A. and Ph. D. in Theology from the University of Durham, England.  His most recent publication is Authority in the Church according to St. John Chrysostom.

St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, MN sponsors the annual St. John Chrysostom Lecture in cooperation with the Faculty of Holy Cross. Since 1979, this lecture has promoted the significance of preaching in the Orthodox Church.  The lecture is sponsored in honor of Fr.
