OSI Database Goes Live
Despite the prevalence of highly educated Orthodox Christians in the United States today, there is no comprehensive data on Orthodox Christian faculty teaching in the myriad disciplines of higher education. The new Orthodox Scholars’ Initiative (OSI) database is designed to enable Orthodox Christian faculty and researchers of every discipline—economists, scientists, historians, sociologists, etc.—to find an network with one another, as well as to serve as resources for Orthodox Christian students, parishes, and organizations. To this end, it invites four user groups to register: (1) faculty/researchers, (2) students, (3) lay leaders, and (4) clergy. Users may choose a range of privacy options in order to control which groups can see and access their information. The OSI database allows users to tailor their interests in the database, with the following possibilities:
Collaboration with Faculty
Collaboration with Students
Mentoring of Students
Giving Lectures and Workshops
Becoming Involved with Local OCF Chapters
Field-related Conferences
Disciplinary Networking
Looking for someone who is doing similar research
The database is born out of the work of the Office of Vocation & Ministry at Hellenic College, which sees the need on local, regional, and national levels for Orthodox faculty to be involved in the life and ministry of the Orthodox Church in the United States.
