Archbishop Elpidophoros Statement on NECHE Announcement
Statement from His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, Chairman of Hellenic College Inc., regarding the NECHE announcement about Hellenic College Holy Cross.
“As Chairman of the Board of Hellenic College Inc., I note with significant appreciation all of the outstanding work that has been accomplished at our beloved School, even as the notice of the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), from its May 2019 meeting, requires that Hellenic College, Inc. should show cause why it should not be placed on probation or have its accreditation withdrawn. Nevertheless, the process that has led to this notice demonstrates that our School is moving forward and correcting the mistakes of the past which brought us to this point. I must emphasize that HC/HC remains fully accredited, eligible for federal funding, including student aid, and on task to ensure the future of our students is bright.
As an Archdiocese, we must all take responsibility for our School, and I am happy to report that the interim President, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, the Board of Trustees, the staff and the faculty are working around the clock to fulfill their obligations to all accrediting agencies.
As Archbishop and Chairman of the Board, I am following every development closely, and I take this opportunity to commend all involved for their tireless work to place the institutional framework of the School on a firm footing. Much has been accomplished since the interventions that commenced this past April, and there is much more to achieve. However, we can be confident as a Church that this crown jewel of our Archdiocese, Hellenic College and Holy Cross, will be established on the strong and lasting foundation that it deserves, and that it will continue to be the city of faith and learning on that holy hill, bringing forth true servant-leaders for our Greek Orthodox Community of America.
With paternal love in our Lord Jesus Christ,
Elpidophoros, Archbishop of America, Chairman of the Board, Hellenic College Holy Cross”
