Fr. Bartholomew Mercado came to Holy Cross in 2022 after being appointed by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America as the Chaplain of the Holy Cross Memorial Chapel. In addition, he concurrently began serving as an adjunct instructor and teaching his field of expertise – Canon Law. He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor of Canon Law while continuing to serve as the Chaplain of the Holy Cross Chapel. Since 2023 he also has served as the Director of the Holy Cross Diaconate Program as well as the Director of the Holy Cross St. Helen’s Pilgrimage.
His research includes a wide variety of canonical topics especially within the context of ecclesiastical history and administrative governance. Fr. Bartholomew likewise serves as a consultant to the Holy Eparchial Synod and to hierarchs of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on canonical matters.
Prior to coming to Holy Cross, Fr. Bartholomew served as the Registrar of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey and then concurrently as Director of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America’s Department of Archives and as Proistamenos of the St. George and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Harlem, NY.
