HCHC Launches Fully Online Nonprofit Certificate and Major for Fall 2025

Hellenic College announces the launch of its fully online Nonprofit Leadership & Management (NPLM) Certificate, now available for enrollment. This marks Hellenic College’s inaugural venture into fully online undergraduate programming, reflecting a strategic and mission-driven expansion into distance education.

This 18-credit certificate is part of a broader initiative under the newly approved Bachelor of Arts in Nonprofit Leadership & Management debuting in the 2025–2026 academic year. All online courses are open to both degree-seeking and Open Learning (non-degree) students, offering accessibility and flexibility.

Developed in collaboration between the Office of the Dean of Hellenic College and the Office of Distance and Continuing Education, this program supports President Demetrios Katos’ vision of HCHC as a dynamic, mission-centered institution responsive to the needs of the Church and a resource for its growth.

The Nonprofit program is marked by clear, outcomes-driven learning goals that will prepare clergy and laity to meet the need for rational financial leadership and management with an Orthodox Christian ethos at all levels of ecclesiastical administration. These outcomes include proficiency in core nonprofit functions, including governance, fundraising, communications, and financial oversight; leadership theory and vocational discernment to guide mission-focused growth and impact; the development of applied skills in team and project management, using established planning and evaluation models.

Said Dr. Katos “This program meets an urgent need to provide our parishes and our national ministries with Christ-centered professionals and volunteers who have advanced skills in non-profit leadership and management and can create effective and thriving organizations that makes Christ present in this world.”

Added Dr. Nicholas Ganson, Dean of Hellenic College, “The certificate and major seek to address the increasing demand for skilled leadership in the nonprofit field, including ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese and other affiliated organizations. This marks an exciting new chapter for the school, as we prepare laypersons to take on vital, mission-driven roles in the Church with professionalism and purpose and provide a readily accessible resource for servants of the Church to strengthen their skills.”

Designed for clergy, current and prospective lay leaders, and students nationwide, the certificate’s remote format offers geographic flexibility. Courses will be taught by recognized experts in the field and are open to applicants with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Enrollment for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years is open. The Nonprofit courses being offered for the fall of 2025 are Philanthropy & the Nonprofit Sector, Impact Monitoring & Evaluation, and Strategic Management.
