FR. PENTIUC FIRST ORTHODOX MEMBER OF B.E.S.T. EDITORIAL BOARD
On February 25, 2022, the Editorial Board of the B.E.S.T (La Bible en ses traditions / The Bible in Its Traditions) Bible Research Program at École Biblique et Archéologique Française (EBAF) in Jerusalem voted unanimously to appoint Fr. Eugen J. Pentiuc, PhD, as a member. He is the only Orthodox scholar ever to serve on the prestigious editorial board, which consists of Dominican professors at EBAF. Fr. Historian and Archon Dr. Tom Papademetriou (Archon Didaskalos tou Genous) presented two successful in-person lectures on “The History of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Under Ottoman Rule” on February 11 and 18, 2022. Dr. Papademetriou was a guest lecturer in the seminar on the Ecumenical Patriarchate taught by Rev. Dr. George Parsenios, Dean of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology. The faculty of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology will offer spiritual guidance and instruction in various forms throughout the entire Paschal period, from the beginning of Lent until the feast of Pentecost. The New York Life Insurance Center for the Study of Hellenism in Pontus and Asia Minor at Hellenic Holy Cross is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Exodus Project through a grant in the amount of $100,000. On December 20, 2021, Professor Nicholas Ganson, co-director of The Greek Revolution through American Eyes bicentennial exhibition now on display at HCHC’s Maliotis Cultural Center, made a presentation entitled “Greek Fever: Philhellenism, Humanitarianism, and Reform” via web conference for the Fulbright Scholars of Northern Greece. He provided insights into the interplay between philhellenism, humanitarianism, and the ideal of liberty, as seen in the activism of prominent American grecophiles Edward Everett and Samuel G.
