ENVIRONMENTAL HISTORY CLASS CONDUCTS FIELD RESEARCH

On Friday, September 24, Professor Nicholas Ganson’s Environmental History class, accompanied by Hellenic College Interim Dean Timothy Patitsas, conducted field research on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The group examined evidence of interactions between humans and the natural environment at numerous sites, including Mass Audubon’s Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary. The field trip provided students with insights into the island’s history, ecology, and conservation efforts. Dean Patitsas offered reflections on the beauty of the natural world from an Orthodox perspective and the importance of its preservation, which has been a point of emphasis for Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew during his tenure.
