FR. STANLEY HARAKAS – MEMORY ETERNAL

It is with a sorrowful hearts, yet with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you of the falling asleep of Fr. Stanley Harakas.

The Rev. Fr. Stanley Harakas fell asleep in the Lord on June 23, 2020, at the age of 88. Born Stylianos Harakas on January 13, 1932, to Sam (Spyridon) Harakas and Katherine (Moraites) Harakas in Pittsburgh, PA, Fr. Stanley received his undergraduate and theology degrees from Holy Cross, and his Doctor of Theology degree from Boston University in 1965.

In 1966, Fr. Stanley began to teach at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, where he continued to have a lifelong association with his beloved school as the first Archbishop lakovos Professor of Orthodox Theology, as Dean of Hellenic College (1969-1975), and as Dean of Holy Cross (1970-1980). In 2000, Fr. Stanley received an Honorary Doctorate from Hellenic College Holy Cross.

Orthros and Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday July 1, 2020, at Christ the Savior Greek Orthodox Church in Spring Hill, Florida, beginning at 8 am, with His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta officiating. The funeral will follow at 11 am. HCHC President George M. Cantonis will travel to Florida to represent our school at the services, and to pay the respects of all our HCHC family.

As Our Lord appointed him to be a Priest of His Church on earth, may Fr. Stanley be blessed also to serve at the Heavenly Altar and to hear the words of Our Lord, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
