Hellenic College, Metropolis of Chicago Establish Internship Partnership
Hellenic College and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago have entered into a new partnership that will provide students in the college’s Nonprofit Leadership and Management (NPLM) program with opportunities for practical, hands-on experience in Church administration and ministry.
Under the agreement, NPLM students will have the opportunity to complete semester and year-long internships with the Metropolis of Chicago, gaining firsthand experience in the administration and operations of a major ecclesiastical organization while contributing their own skills and perspectives to its work. The partnership reflects the school’s commitment to connecting academic preparation with meaningful opportunities for professional and service- oriented formation.
The NPLM program prepares students for leadership and administrative roles in nonprofit organizations, with particular attention to the distinctive worldview, mission, and needs of the Orthodox Church.
Sandra Glisic, Director of Operations of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, welcomed the new partnership. “The Metropolis of Chicago is grateful for the opportunity to welcome interns through Hellenic College’s new Nonprofit and Leadership Management Program. Through this year-long partnership, we hope to provide meaningful, hands-on experience in Church administration and ministry while benefiting from the energy, perspective, and talents these emerging leaders bring to the work of the Metropolis.”
Added Rev. Fr. Michael Lambakis, Interim President of Hellenic College, “This collaboration serves to strengthen the bonds of the Metropolis of Chicago with Hellenic College in Brookline, Massachusetts. We look forward to growing this initiative in the future.”
The partnership with the Metropolis of Chicago joins Hellenic’s growing network of collaborations designed to give NPLM students direct exposure to the work of Orthodox institutions and organizations. Through these relationships, students can apply the principles and skills developed through their coursework in settings where leadership, administration, community engagement, and ministry intersect.
“The NPLM program was conceived in large part to help strengthen the capacity of the Church at the grassroots level,” said Dr. Nicholas Ganson, Dean of Hellenic College. “These partnerships allow our students to learn not only about nonprofit leadership, but also from the people who carry out this work every day in service to the life and mission of the Church.”
The NPLM major and certificate are available online and designed to accommodate students and working professionals. The certificate can be completed in as few as two semesters, while the program’s flexible structure also permits students to proceed at their own pace.
The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago is one of the Metropolises of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and serves Orthodox Christian communities across five Midwestern states.
