His Grace Bishop Joachim of Amissos Ordained In Washington, DC

The ordination of His Grace Bishop Joachim of Amissos took place on December 22, 2019, at St. Sophia Cathedral in Washington, DC. His Grace, a 1979 graduate of Holy Cross, will serve as an Auxiliary Bishop to His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America while retaining his position as Director of HCHC’s Archbishop Iakovos Library and Learning Resource Center. A distinguished and globally recognized Byzantinist, Bishop Joachim will also continue his scholarly endeavors.

In his ordination address [read the full text here], Bishop Joachim spoke movingly about his lifelong connection to St. Sophia and expressed his deep gratitude to Archbishop Elpidophoros for giving his blessing to have the ordination take place there, “in a sacred space ascribed with great meaning for me.”
