Message from the HCHC President

Dear HCHC Students, Parents and Community,

The situation globally, with regard to COVID-19, what we know as coronavirus, has evolved this week with increases in the number of confirmed cases. Know that the safety of our students, faculty and staff is paramount as we monitor the situation.

DELAYED RETURN TO CAMPUS FOR ANYONE RETURNING FROM INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

Students who may have traveled abroad to Centers for Disease Control (CDS) Level-3 countries—China, Italy, Iran and South Korea—and wish to return to the U.S. are prohibited from campus for a minimum of 14 days, a period of time suggested by health officials. Although we may not have any students currently in this situation, if they are, they should contact the Office of Student Life who will provide a date upon which they may return.  They should always be in regular contact with the Dean of Students, Father Antonios A. Papathanasiou at apapathanasiou@hchc.edu

FOR THOSE TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY

The response of foreign governments to coronavirus varies. Individuals should first consult the travel warnings and advisory resources of the U.S. State Department before deciding to travel internationally. Know that if students travel to an area that is placed under quarantine, neither HCHC nor the U.S. embassies or consulates can secure their release. Any student that is traveling internationally must contact the Dean of Students prior to departure from the HCHC campus.

CAMPUS OPERATIONS

While coronavirus has not significantly impacted New England or the United States, as a precautionary measure, HCHC officials have begun reviewing several contingency plans should operations be interrupted. Options are currently under review to ensure that students may complete their courses regardless of any challenges that may arise in the near future. We do not anticipate such an interruption, however, we are beginning to plan for the unexpected.

In the meantime, we urge students to protect themselves by taking the same precautionary measures as they would if they contracted the flu, such as refraining from travel or remaining in your residence if feeling ill.
